India is a country with a rich history and culture, and it's also home to an incredible number of people who are disabled. This means that there are many opportunities for NGOs to provide training and placement opportunities for people with disabilities (PwDs).

In fact, there are so many NGOs that offer such opportunities that it can be difficult to know where to start! The good news is that we've done the research for you, so you don't have to worry about where to begin. 

We've compiled a list of the top 5 NGOs (not a ranking!) that provide training and placement opportunities for PwDs in India, so check them out below!

1. Deepalaya

Deepalaya is the first NGO on our list that provides training and placement opportunities for persons with disabilities (PwDs) in India. It was founded in 1979 by a group of social workers, educators, and medical professionals. Deepalaya works to empower PwDs through education, employment, and other support services. 

The organisation runs residential schools for children with visual impairments, hearing impairments, or intellectual disabilities; vocational training centres for youth with physical disabilities; and job placements programmes for adults with all types of disabilities. Deepalaya also advocates for the rights of PwDs at the policy level. In recent years, it has been working to promote inclusive education in mainstream schools across India. In addition to its educational programmes, Deepalaya also provides employment support services for PwDs through its Job Placement Programme (JPP). 

The JPP works with corporate partners to identify job opportunities for persons with disabilities. It also provides pre-employment training to help candidates prepare for interviews and hone their skillset. To date, the JPP has placed innumerable PwDs in jobs across various sectors including IT, banking/finance, manufacturing, retailing etc.

2. Youth4Jobs Foundation

The Youth4Jobs Foundation is renowned for empowering PwDs in India! The organisation was founded in 2013 by a group of young professionals who wanted to make a difference in the lives of PwDs. Since then, they have helped so many PwDs find employment through their various programmes.

They offer both short-term and long-term courses depending on the needs of the individual. Their courses range from computer skills training to job readiness workshops. They also provide one-on-one career counselling to help PwDs identify their strengths and weaknesses so they can find jobs that are best suited for them. In addition to providing training, Youth4Jobs also work closely with companies to create inclusive workplaces where PwDs can thrive.

3. Cheshire Disability Trust

Cheshire Disability Trust was set up in 2006 by a group of UK-based doctors and engineers who were concerned about the lack of support available for PwDs in developing countries. Since then, the trust has helped over 10,000+ PwDs find employment in various sectors across India.

The trust provides vocational training to PwDs so that they can acquire skills that will help them find jobs. It also helps companies create inclusive workplaces where PwDs can be employed. In addition, the trust runs awareness campaigns to sensitize employers and society at large about the abilities of PWDs and dispel myths and misconceptions about them.

The Cheshire Disability Trust has been instrumental in changing the lives of many disabled people in India by helping them lead independent and fulfilling lives through gainful employment. The trust will continue its work towards empowering PwDs and creating a more inclusive society.

4. Sarthak Educational Trust

Sarthak Educational was founded in 2006 by Dr Jitender Aggarwal. The main aim of the trust is to provide quality education and employment opportunities to PwDs so that they can lead independent and fulfilling lives. To achieve this, the trust runs various programmes such as computer literacy courses, vocational training programmes, job fairs etc. It also offers scholarships to meritorious students belonging to economically weaker sections of society. 

So far, the trust has helped over 55,000 PwDs find gainful employment in various organisations across India. Some of its notable achievements include setting up an inclusive IT centre at Kolkata which employs around 50% PwDs; partnering with leading companies like TCS & WIPRO for providing placements to qualified candidates; and organising annual job fairs wherein more than 500 PwDs have been placed till date.

The trust has also been felicitated with several awards and recognitions over the years, which is a testimony to its commitment towards empowering PwDs. The main motto of Sarthak Educational Trust is that every individual deserves an equal opportunity to grow and succeed in life, irrespective of their physical or mental abilities!

5. Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled

Samarthanam Trust for the Disabled is the fifth and last NGO on our list that provides training and placement opportunities for persons with disabilities (PwDs) in India. The organisation was founded in 1997 by Mahantesh GK, a visually impaired individual himself, who wanted to create more employment opportunities for people like him. 

Samarthanam has since helped over 10,000 PwDs across the country find jobs in various sectors. The trust runs several programs which provide skills training to PwDs and help them get placed in companies that are willing to hire them. One such program is ‘Sarva Guna’ which trains individuals with multiple disabilities so they can be employed as telemarketers or customer service executives. Other programs include computer courses under ‘e-Accessibility,’ mobile phone repair courses under ‘Mobile Mitra,’ etc. 

Most of these courses are offered free of cost to the participants and the trust also helps with job placements after successful completion of the course. In addition to this, Samarthanam also offers financial assistance to needy PwDs through its ‘Annapurna Scheme’ and gives away free mobility aids such as wheelchairs, crutches etc., to those who need them.
